I am working on a new project about diabolical commentary and advice on subverting spiritual awakenings and the theology of Jonathan Edwards. It’s inspired by my work on the JESociety Miscellanies Project, as well as the Jonathan Edwards NT commentary I am currently producing with Reformation Heritage Books.
The storyline is that Doctor Freefall, a devil assigned to JE as a youth, has been studying Edwards’s “Miscellanies” and other writings with an intensity that rivals Edwards’s own students. Freefall has been tasked to twist theology and subvert awakenings. He recorded his observations and strategies in a book he titled “Theology and the Art of Temptation.” Freefall uses this collected wisdom to inform his correspondence with his apprentice Slidefoot.
I’m producing a series of short books of Doctor Freefall’s dark correspondence which are organized according to theological themes found in Jonathan Edwards’s “Miscellanies” and other works. I include illuminating excerpts from JE’s writings which contrast with Freefall’s letters so as to create a theological chiaroscuro.
There are three books in the series so far, with many more in the pipeline. Visit the series page at https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DCGSDY6P
