‘Tis natural to suppose that persons in the work of conversion should be made conformable to Christ: that as he underwent such humiliation and sufferings, such terrors in a sense of imputed guilt and wrath, and was killed by the law before his resurrection and comfort, so the soul that is to be one of Christ’s members should be first distressed and abased and killed by the law and a sense of wrath, before its spiritual resurrection and comfort.
